Throughout the semester we explored many units. We explored Portraits, Landscapes, Still Lifes, Motion photography, and low light photography. These photos are the twenty best of all of the units combined. I think these photos show the overall bredth of my capabilities as a photographer. I tried to include at least a few photos from every unit, and make sure they are the best quality. While taking these photos I only shot on manual mode. This was definitely a challenge to figure out what settings I needed to be using, but it made me a better photographer over time, and I feel more comfortable adjusting every setting, as I am more familiar with what they do. A common theme in my pictures that I take is the use of rule of thirds or macro photography. I think at least one of these are apparent in almost every photo in this portfolio. I tried to include the most variety in my photographs, but some of them look the same due to lack of traveling places to take pictures. Overall I think the top twenty pictures accurately show my ability as a photographer throughout all of the different units. For my focus I chose architecture photography. I dont necessarily enjoy shooting architecture more than anything else, but it is something that I am drawn to if I am in an interesting place. There are many cool architectural buildings throughout omaha and other places that make for interesting photographs, and that draw my attention. I like shooting architecture as It gives me the ability to take something that may be ordinary and use different techniques to make an interesting photo, like macro or low light. I believe that these pictures of architecture show the best of my photos in that area, and show the best of my abilities.

For Unit four I chose to take motion pictures. Motion is an interesting unit to shoot due to the many different approaches you can take. You can take pictures of quick moving things and make them look still, or you can take pictures of slow moving things over a long period of time to make them have the blurred effect. For most of mine I chose to take pictures of quick moving things with a high shutter speed. I feel like this makes for more interesting photographs, and in general it is fun to see the motion of an object during a single point in time. Overall, I think most of my pictures convey motion very well, and I am happy with the end results of all of the pictures.
For this unit we were supposed to shoot advertisements for different companies that other people chose for us. To do this, we did our typical routine for taking pictures, but spent more time on the editing process. While taking photos we had to have one clothes company, one food company, and one album cover. Taking the pictures was relatively easy, and not much different than any other unit. However during the editing process we had another task to make it look like an advertisement the company would use. To do this I added the slogan and the logo to make it more believable. I downloaded different fonts to match the companies, and got images of the logo to add to the picture. overall I think they turned out well
For unit four, I have decided to do motion. because there are so many diverse things you can do with motion. I would like to try and cover all of the bases with my motion photography, including some with blur, and some very high shutter speed photos. I think this would cover most of the bases and make the portfolio diverse and fun to look at. For this unit I will have to learn how to balance shutter speed and the amount of light in the photo so it doesn't come out over exposed. I think that will be challenging but will come out with a good effect in the end.
For this unit, instead of analyzing our photos ourselves, we asked others to do it for us. To do this, I went around school and showed people the eight photos that I took for this unit. After looking over the photos I asked them 4 questions about the composition and theme in general. The first question that I asked was "Do the photos look too similar? If so, how could I improve the diversity?" the response for this question was almost completely the same, no matter who I asked. Most everybody said that although you can tell all of the pictures take place around the same part of town, I did well in making the photos I did have diverse with different types of architecture, colors, and perspective. Next I asked "What do you think of the composition in the photos?" This question again was almost exactly the same for everybody. Everybody said they really enjoy the different angles, focal lengths, and the usage of rule of thirds throughout all of my photos. However, Some said that I should watch the signs I was cutting out of the pictures so it doesn't look too cluttered on the outside of the pictures, and the wall picture never seemed to grab anybodies attention. The third thing I asked is "Do you think the theme of architecture was conveyed well throughout the photos?" Everybody said yes, they could see the architecture in nearly all of them. The two pictures that people had a harder time seeing the theme of architecture was the zoo picture and the sculpture. Finally I asked "What is one thing you think that I could improve on?" For this question i got mixed answers from everybody. Somebody said be careful cutting the scenery and signs out of the photos. Another said I should zoom out more and show the entire scene instead of focusing on just one thing, and lastly, somebody said that although they like my eye, try to improve some of my photos to have a story behind them. Overall, I think that asking others for their opinion will help me improve my photos even more now that I know what others are thinking.
This unit was extremely fun to to shoot. In order to get this effect, we first had to take the photos. In order to get them to match, I had to make sure the camera was on a tripod, and that the lighting would not change throughout the photos. After you took the photos and made sure they would blend well together, you put them into photoshop and used the features to help you blend then seamlessly. Once that is done you have your final panorama.
I found shooting this unit was one of my favorites by far. Shooting people is entertaining because each picture shows some of their personality. during this unit I tried to shoot interesting and diverse pictures. I tried new ideas by manipulating in photoshop, shooting action pictures, and shooting with motion. I think the results turned out much better than expected. For the composition I tried to use the rule of thirds and different sources of light . Overall I think that it came out with good results
for this unit I wanted to do architecture. Some of my ideas for exterior architecture were to go to the old market and shoot the older buildings, or find broken down/abandoned buildings in Omaha and take pictures of them. I like the older and broken down look for architecture as it gives the picture some character. I would also like to go to elmwood park and shoot in some of the graffiti tunnels as it would make for an interesting picture. Next, I would like to shoot interior of older buildings as well. I could use some pictures from the Durham, but I also want to try shooting pictures inside of churches. Another idea I had for interior was shooting with only one light source, and try some macro/close up shooting. In order to execute these ideas, I don't need to know many different things except how to work manual mode, and maybe how to shoot in low light conditions depending on where I'm shooting.
