Throughout the time taking photos for the low light unit, I found it relatively easy to find diverse ideas to shoot. However; I did not get to photograph a few pictures I wanted to take due to lack of snow at night, I still think that the photos I did take are unique and diverse. Along with being diverse, I also tried to be more creative for this unit. This unit especially was much different than anything I would have done in photo one considering I shot in full manual and used very long shutter speeds to get the picture that I needed. Another thing I think that these photos show well is Composition. I tried to make the photos look as appealing as possible, making sure the main light source in each picture wasn't directly in the center of the picture. I tried to utilize different focal lengths as well, like in the picture of the book. Lastly, I think these photos show craftsmanship, especially with the lighting. Being a low light unit, the lighting was very important where I could get it. I tried to have one or maybe two main light sources in each picture, making it look dark but still visible. I think this turned out well and I am happy with the results that I got from this unit.

Overall, I thought making the kaleidoscope pictures was very fun. This allowed me to look at my pictures in a new way that i never had before. To get the pictures to make a kaleidoscope-like image, first we had to use photoshop. Once we got the canvas sizes figured out we then put four copies of the original image onto one canvas, and started to flip them. As long as you had one image that remained the same, one that was flipped horizontally, one that was flipped vertically, and one that was flipped both horizontally and vertically, you could start to make your kaleidoscope. There were multiple combinations for each picture, so you could line up the pictures in whatever way that you thought looked the best, then you could flatten the image and you had your finished product!
Overall, I really enjoyed looking at this portfolio. It shows a great mix of all of the different styles and projects we did throughout this semester, leading to a really diverse portfolio. One of my favorite pictures out of this portfolio, was the photo with the sign and the fence. I really like the glare of the sun, and the angle that the photo was taken in. Another one of my favorites was one of the melting crayon photos. I think that the blur looks really nice in these photos and it gives it a unique look. Throughout the portfolio you can see rule of thirds, leading lines, and texture. There were a few photos that were a little bit repetitive, but they were changed just enough to make it still look interesting.
I chose these photos for my final portfolio, because I believe that these photos show variety in what I have shot this year. I think that these are the best examples of my photographs for each of the units we have focused on this semester. Some of my favorite pictures out of my top 15, would be the picture of the bird nest, because I like the foreground and background in this photo. In this photo I used leading lines to lead towards the eggs with the twigs, and rule of thirds where I moved the nest to the top left of the photo. I would like to see more color throughout my portfolio, most of mine consists of green/outside photography. Overall, I really enjoyed photo one and did not have one favorite assignment.
ISO - ISO is how sensitive the camera is to light. usually, the numbering system is 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, and 3200. These numbers multiply by 2 every time. For bright situations, you should use 100-200. Cloudy days 400,800, sometimes 1600. If you want to shoot dark situations, 1600-3200 will usually work. You can think of ISO like sunglasses. The more light, the less sensitive you want the camera to be. The less light, the more you want it to be sensitive, so you take off the sunglasses.
Aperture - Aperture is how much light is let in to the camera. Aperture is measured in f-stops. These usually look like numbers with decimals, such as f 5.6. For Aperture, the lower the number, the darker the situation should be. For higher numbers, you want it to be light, to let more light into the photograph. One of the hidden functions of aperture is focus. If you have a lower number, the focus range gets closer to you. You can use this to have a blurred background or a boca effect. This can go the other way around as well. With the higher numbers, your range increases by so much that your focus range is almost infinite. Shutter Speed - Shutter speed is how long the camera is open. Usually this is measured in fractions, such as 1/160, or 1/1000. These fractions represent how long the shutter speed is open. So 1/160 of a second, or 1/1000 of a second. These also can go into full seconds. Full seconds can be used to create an effect of motion, such as people walking past, or playing with light. But, as these shutter speeds get longer, more light will be let in. with the smaller numbers, less light will be allowed through, so it may make the photo darker. My favorite informal pictures happened to all take place in the same zoo trip. It was cloudy, so the photos outside had little shadow and turned out great. I tried to take pictures while they weren't looking to capture a feeling like it was very natural. I feel like i achieved this throughout these photos, with the exception of a few that I had them set up. I really enjoy spending time at the zoo so i feel like these photos show a little bit of my own, as well as the people in the photos personalities.
For my formal portraits model, I chose my sister. I was comfortable taking pictures of her rather than a stranger, so it made the entire experience easier. Coming in to the studio, My ideas were to Keep the lighting bright, so the photos could have a fun/bubbly feel to them. As the photoshoot went on I ended up liking the black background better than the white. Some things during the photos went better than others. I really like the poses that we did for the photos, it fit the feeling that I was trying to achieve very well. I feel like i could have experimented with the lighting a little bit more than I did, because most of the time the lighting was constant. Overall, I really enjoyed taking the formal portraits and having my sister come in for pictures was an awesome a super fun experience
Taking selfies can be a lot more difficult than just holding an iphone and smiling. Finding the right angle and pose for a selfie can be challenging, but the finished products of these selfies turned out better than I could have hoped.
